Welcome to MGL Math Center!
Welcome to MGL Math Center! We are committed to helping students build strong math skills with structured lessons, personalized guidance, and consistent progress tracking. This page contains everything you need to know about our tutoring process, policies, and expectations.
How Our Tutoring Works
Small Group Sessions
- We offer small group classes that do not exceed 5 students per class.
- Although we have group classes, each student works on their own personalized program independently.
Session Duration & Frequency
- Regular classes are 1 hour long.
- College test prep classes are 2 hours long.
- Students can choose to attend 1 or 2 classes per week, depending on their learning needs.
Personalized Learning Approach
- For students up to middle school, we create a personalized program based on the results of an assessment test taken during the initial meeting.
- For high school students, we work closely with their school programs to provide support with their schoolwork, while also assigning extra practice work as needed.
Focus on Independent Learning
- Our main goal is to promote independent learning with minimal help.
- We provide a lot of practice problems to work on during class and assign a significant amount of homework for students to study and practice at home.
Schedule & Attendance Policies
Setting Up Your Schedule
- After your child takes the assessment, if you decide to join, please inform us of your preferred days (e.g., Monday, Wednesday after 5 PM).
- We will check our availability and confirm a schedule that works for both of us.
- Once your schedule is set, you will attend on that schedule only.
- Since all student schedules are fixed, it is difficult to change your time and day after you start. However, if an issue arises, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Missed Classes & Attendance Policy
- If you notify us in advance that your child will miss a class, we will not count that session.
- If a class is missed without prior notice, it will still be counted as a paid session.
- Please try to inform us at least 24 hours in advance if your child will be absent.
Stopping Tutoring & Refund Policy
- If you wish to stop tutoring, we recommend finishing the month since we do not refund monthly payments once they have been made.
Student & Parent Expectations
Student Expectations
To make the most of tutoring sessions, students are expected to:
✅ Arrive on time.
✅ Bring necessary materials: pencil, eraser, and folder.
✅ Complete all assigned homework before the next session.
✅ Listen carefully and show respect to the tutor.
✅ Ask questions—but keep them related to the topic being learned.
✅ Stay focused and avoid interrupting other students while they work.
🚫 No phones or electronics during class.
🚫 No listening to music while studying.
We aim to create a focused and efficient learning environment. Every minute counts!
Parent Expectations
Parental support is essential for student success. We ask parents to:
✅ Stay engaged and communicate with us about your child’s progress.
✅ Reinforce strict homework habits at home—independent study is the key to learning.
✅ Help young children develop discipline by setting clear study rules and routines.
✅ Understand that parent involvement is crucial—students who perform best have attentive and supportive parents.
💡 Having a tutor is helpful, but not enough on its own. As a parent, you have the greatest influence on your child’s learning success.
Payment & Fees
How Our Payment System Works
Our center uses a session punch card system for payments:
- If you attend twice a week, you prepay for 8 sessions at a time.
- If you attend once a week, you prepay for 4 sessions at a time.
- Once your sessions are used up, you submit the next month’s payment to continue.
Rates & Fees
💰 Tutoring rates (as of 2025): $25 to $50 per hour, depending on the student’s level.
📅 Missed Classes & Attendance Policy
- If you notify us in advance about an absence, that class will not be counted.
- If you miss a class without prior notice, it will be counted as a session and must be paid for.
⚠️ Late Payment Policy
- Payment must be submitted by the second session of the month to avoid late fees.
- A $25 late fee will be applied if payment is not received on time.
Accepted Payment Methods
✅ Cash (pay in person)
✅ Zelle (online payment)
Communication & Progress Tracking
How We Track Student Progress
After the initial assessment, we continue to monitor student progress through:
📌 Quizzes, reviews, and tests during class to reinforce learning and measure improvement.
📌 Monthly progress reports provided at the end of each month (currently on paper, but transitioning to digital reports soon).
We use these assessments to ensure students are developing strong problem-solving skills through active recall and consistent practice.
Parent Communication & Support
We believe in working closely with parents to support each student’s growth.
- If there are concerns (such as repeated missing homework or behavior issues), we will reach out to discuss solutions.
- Parents are always welcome to check in about their child’s progress.
