Welcome to MGL Math Center!
Welcome to MGL Math Center! We are committed to helping students build strong math skills with structured lessons, personalized guidance, and consistent progress tracking. This page contains everything you need to know about our tutoring process, policies, and expectations.
How Our Tutoring Works
Small Group Sessions
- We offer small group classes that do not exceed 6 students per class.
- Although we have group classes, each student works on their own personalized program independently.
Session Duration & Frequency
- Regular classes are 1 hour long.
- College test prep classes are 2 hours long.
- Students can choose to attend 1 or 2 classes per week, depending on their learning needs.
Personalized Learning Approach
- For students up to middle school, we create a personalized program based on the results of an assessment test taken during the initial meeting.
- For high school students, we work closely with their school programs to provide support with their schoolwork, while also assigning extra practice work as needed.
Focus on Independent Learning
- Our main goal is to promote independent learning with minimal help.
- We provide a lot of practice problems to work on during class and assign a significant amount of homework for students to study and practice at home.
Schedule & Attendance Policies
Setting Up Your Schedule
- After your child takes the assessment, if you decide to join, please inform us of your preferred days (e.g., Monday, Wednesday after 5 PM).
- We will check our availability and confirm a schedule that works for both of us.
- Once your schedule is set, you will attend on that schedule only.
- Since all student schedules are fixed, it is difficult to change your time and day after you start. However, if an issue arises, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Missed Classes & Attendance Policy
- If your child misses a class with at least 24 hours’ notice, you may schedule one make-up session per month.
- Missed classes without prior notice are not eligible for a make-up.
- If a class is canceled by the teacher, a make-up class will be provided.
- No make-up classes are offered for sessions missed due to holidays, as holidays are factored into our schedule.
📅 Holidays We Observe (No Class Held):
- Major U.S. Holidays:
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- July 4th (Independence Day)
- Major Mongolian Holidays:
- Tsagaan Sar (Lunar New Year)
- Naadam Festival
Stopping Tutoring & Refund Policy
- If you wish to stop tutoring, we recommend finishing the month since we do not refund monthly payments once they have been made.
Student & Parent Expectations
Student Expectations
To make the most of tutoring sessions, students are expected to:
✅ Arrive on time.
✅ Bring necessary materials: pencil, eraser, and folder.
✅ Complete all assigned homework before the next session.
✅ Listen carefully and show respect to the tutor.
✅ Ask questions—but keep them related to the topic being learned.
✅ Stay focused and avoid interrupting other students while they work.
🚫 No phones or electronics during class.
🚫 No listening to music while studying.
We aim to create a focused and efficient learning environment. Every minute counts!
Parent Expectations
Parental support is essential for student success. We ask parents to:
✅ Stay engaged and communicate with us about your child’s progress.
✅ Reinforce strict homework habits at home—independent study is the key to learning.
✅ Help young children develop discipline by setting clear study rules and routines.
✅ Understand that parent involvement is crucial—students who perform best have attentive and supportive parents.
💡 Having a tutor is helpful, but not enough on its own. As a parent, you have the greatest influence on your child’s learning success.
Payment & Fees
At MGL Math Center, we use a flat monthly tuition model to keep things simple, consistent, and fair for families. This ensures predictable payments while allowing students to stay on track all year long.
📅 Monthly Tuition Rates
Frequency | Monthly Rate | Sessions Included (on average) |
---|---|---|
Once a week | $130/month | ~4–5 sessions/month |
Twice a week | $250/month | ~8–10 sessions/month |
- Tuition is flat regardless of how many sessions fall in a given month.
- Over the course of the year, each student receives all their sessions without overpaying or underpaying.
- No adjustments for months with holidays — those are factored into the annual schedule.
💳 Payment Policy
- Tuition is due monthly on the same date your child began attending.
(e.g., If your child started on the 10th, future payments are due on the 10th of each month.) - A $25 late fee applies if payment is not received within 5 days.
- Students more than 10 days overdue may be temporarily paused from attending class until payment is made.
👨👩👧👦 Sibling Discount
- Families with multiple children attending twice a week receive a $40/month discount per additional child.
🔁 Missed Classes & Make-Up Policy
- Once-a-week students: Up to 1 makeup lesson per month

- Missed sessions without prior notice or unused makeups do not carry over to future months.
- No makeups are provided for major holidays (already factored into the annual schedule).

Communication & Progress Tracking
How We Track Student Progress
After the initial assessment, we continue to monitor student progress through:
📌 Quizzes, reviews, and tests during class to reinforce learning and measure improvement.
📌 Monthly progress reports provided at the end of each month (currently on paper, but transitioning to digital reports soon).
We use these assessments to ensure students are developing strong problem-solving skills through active recall and consistent practice.
Parent Communication & Support
We believe in working closely with parents to support each student’s growth.
- If there are concerns (such as repeated missing homework or behavior issues), we will reach out to discuss solutions.
- Parents are always welcome to check in about their child’s progress.
